CTMS 2017 #1 -Atkinson/Espiritu

Clock Tower Music Series, 676 Laurel St., San Carlos, CA 94070

Aireene Espiritu is a singer/songwriter whose original songs are accompanied by latin/african rhythms, folk, bluegrass pickings and inspirations from gospel music - a mix of stompin', swayin', and timeless Americana.

Mainly influenced by listening to Alan Lomax's field recordings from the South and growing up listening to her uncles' Filipino folk guitar fingerpicking, her music is reminiscent of front porch storytelling, of ghosts and the living, times of laughter and tears.

Aireene tours solo as well as with her band as Aireene & The Itch, a mix of San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles musicians. Recent venues have included Hardly Strictly Bleugrass, The Freight & Salvage, ad the Clock Tower Music Series. http://www.aireeneespiritu.com

Marty Atkinson is an extraordinary guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and banjo player. His his highly accurate ear, strong sense of groove and melody, and enormous capacity for creating harmony are born from his unexpected musical journey from Canada to California, to Nashville and back.

Marty began playing music by working in his father's country band. Eventually, he left his Ontario, Canada home and ended up in California where western swing syncopation, desert artifacts, and dynamic CSN-inspired harmonies entered his musical vocabulary.

He eventually scored a major-label record deal with Atlantic Nashville, then a second deal with Curb/MCA, and a songwriting deal with EMI. Too stubborn to write to the country formula, Marty, over a five year period, wrote just what he wanted to write, and, because of the record deal, he got away with it.

Now he has 4 CDs of this very music (CACTUS CHOIR, BIG PLANS, TWO ROOM SHACK, and WESTERNS) that you can find on CDBaby.

His deals have afforded Marty a small personal recording studio where he produces projects for himself and others as well,

CTMS 2017 #2 - Bruno/Tani

 —  —

Clock Tower Music Series, 676 Laurel St., San Carlos, CA 94070

Jim Bruno is a San Francisco Bay Area based published songwriter.

Songs he’s written have been recorded and released by Shawn Colvin, Mary Lou Lord, Cliff Eberhardt, Maurice Tani and Laurie MacAlister. Songs he’s co-written have been recorded and released by Chuck Prophet and Thad Cockrell.

He currently teaches Songwriting Classes at Foothill College and at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley.

Like all great songwriters/storytellers, Maurice uses humor, pathos, and metaphor (he loves that word!) to spin tales of sometimes heroic, sometimes conniving, seductive and/or hapless characters. Characters deep in the throes of urban/country angst, unrequited love, love affairs gone wrong—in a nutshell—country noir.

A master of clever lyrics and gorgeous melodies that make for ear-worms almost impossible to dismiss, Maurice’s warm powerful voice animates the songs into a kind of technicolor experience.

He has been reviewed in No Depression, and Acoustic Guitar Magazines, and played famous stages such as The Freight & Salvage and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass
